Mingyur Rinpoche Visits Milpitas

We are happy to report on Mingyur Rinpoche’s visit to our Center over the weekend of June 28 thru 30.  Three years have passed since Rinpoche’s last visit and everyone was eager to meet and receive new teachings.

A Welcome Banquet was held the first night where 200 plus students and friends warmly welcomed Rinpoche’s return.  Following the banquet, a book signing was held for Rinpoche’s new book In Love with the World: A Monk’s Journey Through the Bardos of Living and Dying.  The book tells of Rinpoche’s near-death experience and the life-changing wisdom gained while on his four-year wandering retreat.

Early the next morning, everyone gathered at the Embassy Suites in Milpitas for a two-day workshop covering Level 1 of the Joy of Living Program directed by the Tergar Meditation Community.  Two hundred and fifty students attended the two-day workshop where Rinpoche taught how cultivating awareness can help create a peaceful mind and joyful heart.  Accompanying Rinpoche was Senior Tergar Instructor Edwin Kelley who helped guide the meditation and discussion sessions.

Following the workshop on Sunday, members of the Yongey Buddhist Center gathered at the Center for dinner with Rinpoche and a special message about the recent passing of their leader, Dorje Palmo.  Rinpoche blessed the Center and encouraged the members to continue their practice.

The next morning, Rinpoche traveled to Pal Karma Dorje Dzingpa Ling in Northern California for a few days of rest.  While there, Rinpoche enjoyed a three-day private retreat before returning to his teaching schedule.
